Green bubbles are the worst entity in Celeste and here's why.
Celeste is a game. With green bubbles though, this word loses its meaning.
A game is a medium different from all other, because it is interactive. A game gives control to the player.
Green bubbles on contact snap the player to the exact pixel intended by the mapper. The player loses all control of Madeline and can only dash in the exact way envisioned by the creator.
There is no precision aspect to it, there are no better or worse bubble dashes, it is always the same. Green bubbles take away control from the player and give it to the mapper.
But games are {~}all about{/~} the feeling of control. When a map uses bubbles too much, the player no longer has any input on what happens on the screen.
Going from bubble to bubble is not gameplay. It's just watching what happens.
It can still be hard, but it never requires control of the character, just spamming inputs. It becomes something that is better suited for a satisfying video on youtube than a video game.
Dear mappers, please stop using green bubbles, unless you really know what you're doing.
