There is a worn note sitting atop a weathered table.
Through time, the paper itself has been tattered.
However, the words upon the page are still completely legible.
It reads:

theospringcancel=
This map utilizes Dashless Regrabs from springs in order to cancel horizontal momentum.
In order to perform this, throw Theo very quickly after hitting a spring, and then regrab it in mid-air.
You will lose horizontal speed very quickly, but still gain the normal amount of height that you would get from a spring.
It's easier to show it than explain.
Look in the binos to see how it's done.

stall=
In order to do a {# FF9523}Theo Stall{#}, you need to have enough upwards momentum.
The momentum can be gained in any way.
As you travel upward, neutral drop Theo and then regrab shortly after.
This will allow you to momentarily stall in the air.

theodashbounce=
You can perform a dashbounce with springs and a theo crystal.
All you need to do is perform a spring cancel and dash into theo while holding grab.
If you do it correctly, you will get a small bump in the air.
You do not need to buffer, but the time window is pretty small.
This can be done from any dash direction, {#00FF00}{~}including down.{/}

theodashbouncetwo=
Remember, spring dashbounces can be done in any direction.

I would recommend playing The Solar Express by Soloiini in the SJ Grandmaster Lobby in order to learn this tech.
That map tutorializes this tech very well.
The tech in question is a {#447527}Theo dream hyper{#}.
Step 1: Smuggle Theo through a dream block.
Step 2: Do a dream grab. After exiting a dream block with a dream grab while holding a Theo crystal,{n}you will still be holding onto it.
Step 3: Very quickly, hold away from the dream block and perform a hyperdash.
The timing is very tight, and takes a while to get used to.
Congrats! You did a {#447527}Theo dream hyper!{#}
If an explaination helps, grabbing does not cancel the normal coyote time you get from exiting a dream block, which lets this work.
Good luck!

cobwob=
Ok I feel like this one needs explaining because this is a VERY obscure tech.
This is a {# 888888}Cornerboost Wallboost.{#}
If you hold no direction while doing a cornerboost, you can wallboost in mid air. It's hard to explain from a technical standpoint so here is what you do:
{# ffff80}Step one{#}
Start a cornerboost. If you have enough speed to do a normal cornerboost, you can do a {# 888888}cornerboost wallboost.{#}
{# ffff80}Step two{#}
Press jump at the corner. This is the same timing as a normal cornerboost. {# ff0000}HOWEVER,{#} you cannot hold any direction when you perform the cornerboost.
{# ffff80}Step three{#}
After getting the cornerboost, hold the opposite direction. You will be redirected the other way.
The momentum you get from the wallboost is a set speed, and all previous momentum will not be conserved.
Now doing the room with theo is another challenge.
But what's the fun if I told you all the solutions ;)

Hello! This cutscene is going to be pretty long, just a heads up. It's mostly me rambling and giving shoutouts.
It's mostly meant for the few people that ever beat this map legit.
If you just debugged to this room, I would prefer if you skip this dialogue.
And if you're streaming, I would prefer if you read this off-stream (or just black out the screen).
It's kinda personal and I don't really want hundreds of people reading it.
Anyway...
It has been a really long journey, making this {0.3}{~}damn{/~} {0.3}map.
I started this project in the summer of 2022 at a music camp, sitting in a dank cabin with very little wifi on my ancient laptop that had a broken left arrow key.
Originally, {0.2}this map started off as a little troll me and a few of my friends were doing where we would make and decorate fake heart rooms and post them to #achievements.
The early concept deco came from that, and I kinda liked how it looked so I stuck with it.
After digging for the image I found a post where I said {0.3}"me omw to get sidetracked and make a whole ass new map."
{~}Yeah...{/~}
From there everything very quickly spiraled out of control, and I was making a map that was pretty far out of my own skill range.
This was also around the time I first started playtesting {#fcad03}The Solar Express{#} by Soloiini in SJ.
And that brings me to my first thank you.
Thanks to Soloiini for basically inspiring me to make this map.
If I didn't play Solar then I probably wouldn't have gotten good enough to make half of these rooms.
After that,{0.2} I sorta steamrolled through the first checkpoint, trying to make one room a day (which I SO wish happened with the rest of the map).
My second thanks goes to ZKB.
He really helped out with getting stuff off the ground, since my motivation started to fall off a bit.
ZKB kinda revived the project, and it was reassuring that even if nobody liked Dejection, at least he would.
He also made Kickback! Goofy berry I think.
I also need to thank my other playtesters, aether, a_jojo_weeb, chirazen, Dan, IamTNT, Hydro0, Shye, Socks, SplOwON, and Viv.
Of the all of them, I have to give my biggest thanks to chirazen and Hydro0. Chirazen sort of moved into the role of the pioneering clearer, and Hydro0 made a massive feedback document.
Thanks for tearing into my map so it didn't suck.
After I started the second checkpoint, things slowed down a LOT.
I lost motivation over time, and the dogpile of other projects I had started to overshadow it.
Dejection didn't get any major progress until February 2023.
The third thank you of this {0.3}uh{0.3} rant(?) is TheGur90.
The music he made was INCREDIBLE and completely blew me away.
What was even crazier is how fast he made it too.
The track for the final checkpoint was made in less than a month. Which is. {~}What.{/~}
The heart room track you're listening to is even crazier.
HE MADE IT IN 15 MINUTES??????
So yeah, thank you Gur. You're on demon time (compliment).
I also can't let cellularAutomaton go unnoticed.
He made the overworld music, which really helps sets the vibe and oppressive tone of the map.
Since that's the first track you will hear going into this map, I feel like he did an AMAZING job setting up a first impression.
You should go listen to the whole thing if you haven't!
After Gur finished, I sort of got a lot of motivation to steamroll the rest of the second checkpoint and start on the third.
I got the idea for the third checkpoint as a shower thought. I was like "what if Theo but theres more."
It really wasn't that deep, and I honestly did it because I thought it would be funny.
Ricky06 helped make this work because it turns out, Theo kinda doesn't wanna work when there's two of them.
Ricky made the code super quickly, so shoutout him
He also made the GORGEOUS endscreen!
You will see what it looks like soon. No spoilers.
Also, thanks to the other artists, Neozoid, nerferd, Spooooky, and Zaro.
Neozoid made the map icon, Nerferd made the little note at the start, and Zaro made the theo resprite.
Spooooky made the custom overworld model, and OH WOW it looks good.
They also helped out with deco in the heart room!
So yeah, thank yall for doing cool art things!
I feel like I should also thank a few other people, so the list is here:
Hydro0 (again), who made the 2nd room of CP3 when I had extreme burnout ON TOP of playtesting.
Viv, who made a berry room that I ended up scrapping (sorry!),
and Linj, who let me use the Lua script to make the room names appear,
I {~}think{/~} that's it.
Wait no, I'm a liar.
Thank {!}{~}YOU{/!}{/~} for playing this map.
Whether you loved or hated it, I still need to thank you.
I knew when I started that this map was going to be super controversial.
I kinda brought it up earlier, but I feel like Theo crystals are a mechanic that are very hit or miss, with more of an emphasis on miss.
Especially when it comes to hard gameplay.
Originally I was a Theo hater, mostly because of Theo Hell from Spring Collab (yeah yeah I'm an old man).
EVEN IF you hate this map with all of your soul.
EVEN IF you never want to see a Theo crystal again for the rest of your life.
Thank you for playing this and sticking with it to the end.
Just putting in the effort to beat this map means so much to me.
If you loved it, that's cool! I made this map for a very niche target audience that you happened to fall into.
I really enjoyed and hated making Dejection, even if it was such a long process. I hope it was worth it.
So yeah, just by beating this map shows that you {~}at minimum{/~} cared a little bit about it.
And that little bit of care goes a long way.
Thank you so much for sticking around for my bs.
This is the part where someone would put something cheesy like that one overused Granny quote.
But NOT ME.
I'm too tired to be funny I think.
...
Real talk here.
I'm so happy to be done with this.
This was the first {~}big{/~} project of mine.
I know my map pack was larger in quantity, but I actually made all of it pretty quickly.
A lot of it was pretty unpolished, but this feels like a much bigger milestone for me somehow.
It's also one of the many big projects I'm currently working on, which means now that I'm done with this I can focus on other stuff.
There are a few other maps of mine that I feel are "higher quality" but this still feels like my greatest achievement.
Cus DAYUM this took a long time.
Well, that's wraps.
You can do your funny heart ultra soon and get it over with.
Or just vibe to the nice music. That's a valid option too.
I'm aware that it's likely that no amount of pretty deco can make up the time and broken fingers it took to get here.
But I hope that you still find it pleasant :)
Other than that, there is only one thing left that I have say,{.3} again.
One

Massive
