hello it the clanter

i am decently happy with the end result of this map, because i do think that it's enjoyable to play, and provides some cool goldens to do. but i also feel pretty disappointed in it. not because it's bad, but because it just lacks the qualities i actually wanted from a coop map.

a lot of what i wanted this project to be was a full-size vanilla style, very cooperative, actually challenging map anywhere in adv-gm. the gm part stayed but, instead of vanilla style, we got a lot of weird diverse techspam gameplay, and instead of cooperative, we instead got something that just feels like a deathlink challenge.

i think theres three reasons the map ended up this way.
- summit mechanics don't provide much cooperative capability, and synced throwables didn't exist when we started this.
- the mapping process wasn't heavily coordinated enough and one of us would basically just be given loenn while the other would disengage, maybe providing gameplay ideas from time to time, preventing us from being able to properly test and coordinate our gameplay with eachother, so we'd often go long sprints of entirely separate gameplay with only occasional checks between the players, that barely did anything more than make sure they started playing the rooms at roughly the same time.
- neither of us were very creative. honestly we just threw shit at the wall and kept it if it was fair just for the sake of making gameplay.
- it was scary to introduce any sort of cross-player interactions while having fairness be a priority, because we had no idea how much ping had an effect on the gameplay. so we often just didn't try to.

i wanted this map to try to fill a gap i really wanted to see closed, which was to make a long, challenging multiplayer map. everything coop we've gotten up to this point has just been either really short and easy maps without using synced entities, or a friendly climb, which while cool, was really easy. i wanted something that felt like the logical next step after a friendly climb, sharing its qualities while being actually really hard.

this certainly ended up pretty far from that vision. but i can't say the map is bad. disappointment doesn't have to be mutually exclusive from quality. i think the map is just, alright. weird, techy, more deathlinky than cooperative, but its enjoyable diverse techslop, and playtesters seemed to enjoy it. but god, i really hope another team of mappers can do better than we did in the future.

though while i just talked about how what map i wanted to make after we already started making it, weirdly i don't recall ever actually choosing to start making this map. i never thought me and plitz would try to despite us wanting the type of map i describe above, because neither of us had any good history with mapping before. this started literally because i checked modded_updates, saw corkr post the map sync feature update to coop helper, and forwarded it to plitz when we were bored as shit and being like "YOOO I KNOW WHAT WE'RE GONNA DO WITH THE NEXT 2 WEEKS OF OUR TIME!"

yeah i really wasn't expecting us to set an actual scope for a big project and GENUINELY make a map. i was just like, lets do some bullshit for a bit lmaoooo this feature is sickkkk but No we made a shitty version of 0m-1 in like 4h and was like Yeahhh we could make a Short Map and then just Kept Fucking Going. For Months. we didn't even change the plan for how many rooms we'd make, it just took longer than we thought it would.

also god damn this was spooky to try to do while also wanting to do golden grinds, i was terrified to stack multiple celeste activities ontop of eachother with my hand problems, so i wasn't doing anything outside of random breaks. which damn we had a lot of random ass breaks, idr what the longest one was but there had to have been at least 3 months worth of breaks in that time.

anyway this shit was like "Oh Me And Plitz Have Time At The Same Time! Time To Place Down Some Bullshit In Loenn All Day!" for so goddamn long oh my god. i didn't really even hate mapping all that much but it held any speck of an idea of having a schedule to do literally Anything Fucking Else at gunpoint due to hand issue fear was draining on its own. i barely even wanted to think about this map i felt like i wasn't allowed to do anything actually interesting or have autonomy at all unless it had been at least 10 days since i last dumped an hour into the map.

anyway that was pretty negative but whatever the map itself is like just a "if techslop is good" 7/10 imo i wish to see like a handful of people do the golden and silvers it would be cool i might do some myself idk

i kinda regret basing the first few inputs of 0m-1 off of a 7d reference LMAO hopefully monika won't take that badly

also my apologies for making 2500 so fuckin mocey the influence got to me BUT I'LL HAVE YOU KNOW! all the crouchclimbs and retends were plitz's idea so don't blame me for that (all of the setup based shit was me tho)
